A day + 1 - 1 December ( Part IV )

And just to ilustrate the advantages of an Ipad here is Filipa sitting on the museum entrance after it closed checking her mail:








It continued to Rain a lot but later in the evening, our friend Mirian took ups to the top of this hill since the clouds parted a bit and we were finally able to see the sun! In the next photo of me and Mirian you can see how bright was the sunset




That gave us the oportunity to take some nice shots from Canberra's Old and New Parliament and the War Memorial :



Awhen we were taking the pictures we just noticed that 20m from us downhill were two Kanguroos: a female and its cub.




The mother kangaroo was were quite small (about 1 meter height) and they were attemptive to human noises but not showing any fear. After seeing a Kangaroo in the wild we finally had the confirmation that we were indeed in Australia!

A day + 1 - 1 December ( Part III )

After lunch they dropped us at the National Museum of Australia, were we saw two very interesting exhibitions. The first one was a tribute to the Royal Sciency Academy of London, detailling Captain James Cook's scientific expeditions and also the expeditions that led to the "discovery" of the Australian Continent. The second exhibit was also very interesting, telling the story about the route created to be able to drive the cattle from the north of australia to the centre region that was composed of water wells separated by one day's travel. That allowed also the floureshing of the mining activity in the center of the continent. This of course was possible thanks to the aborigene native (which we found out that they call themselves the Martu) guides, but also led to lots of conflits with local tribes.

Since the museum closed at 17h (like almost everythink in Canberra), we only had time for a quick peek to the permanent exhibiton, but we managed to saw our first Canguru in Australia there....




...but it was of course embalmed....

A day + 1 - 1 December ( Part II )

After walking a bit our 6th sense for games led us straight to this nice and huge boardgame shop!

(this one is for MR)






After that (and resisting the urge to buy some games) our friends met us for lunch and we went to this nice asian food restaurant where I had a really nice Prawn Laksa (noodle soup ) and Filipa had also a nice rice pasta curry with prawns. As it happens the most typical Australian food is the Barbeque, where they cook meat to an almost carcinogenic state. Since they are really a big mix of nationalities, having a lot of asian e
migration you get to have these nice asian restaurants everywhere.

A day + 1 - 1 December ( Part I )

So in the first day after our arrival to Canberra we still had to sort the internet service to iPad. Although I got a free micro sim card from Vodafone and I only had to charge it, the activation procedure required an Australian address and phone number so I stoped activating it until I would ask Dominik if I could use his address and phone number. I was actually lucky to stop it, because it happens that Vodafone didn't have cell coverage in Airlie Beach where we will stay some days from now. After a quick trip to the mall we found out that other company had coverage in that area and for 30 AUD I got a total of 3Gb downloads to be used in a month.

Before lunch the rain stopped for a bit and we managed to get out of the Shopping Mall and to see some of the strange sculptures they have in the shopping district in central Canberra

Problems with internet..posting updates will take sometime..

Having prepared the next posts for the blog, I found out that the net here is so bad that it seems I don't manage to post any update with pictures...I'll have to resize them all probably before uploading them...

A day + 0 - 30 November

Sorry for the delay between the first articles and this ones but between the jet lag, rain and planning the rest of the trip it has been difficult finding time to write. I' m writing this from the flight we took from Sydney to the Gold Coast were we will spend some days with our friends.

After the arrival to Canberra (a 3h30 mins bus trip from Sydney Airport), Our friends were waiting at the bus terminal and we went straight to lunch. They actually took me to this nice restaurant in the Medical University of Canberra in this amazing building that was sponsored by Jackie Chan (To know more details )! We had some nice charbroiled burguers Aussie style.

Since it was raining a lot we went to visit Australia's new Parliaments House






Here you can see me and Filipa in the New Parliament's House entrance with the Old Parliament in backdrop. You can also see the terrible clouds and lousy rainy weather that we got ....

But we finally arrived at our first destination!
